The Circle of Life
As I sat in the hospital cafeteria the other day pondering the fact Mom is still in the hospital moving close to 40 days, I noticed lots of activity in the far corner of the cafeteria. Looking closer I recognized a family I had seen quite a bit when Mom was in ICU, sadly their loved one was still there and not doing well. The family told me they were about to put in a trach, something this woman had fought previously; but the respirator couldn’t be in longer.
The table next to me was multi-generational, people were excited; a baby was about to be born. Grandma and Grandpa had charge of two little ones and I think perhaps the other lady I saw was an aunt. Much discussion about what time the baby would be born and what name they would agree on was taking place.
Gathered by the elevator, as I made my way back to my mothers room; was a sad tearful family. As they comforted each other, several were on the phone making funeral arrangements.
My time of late at the hospital seems to follow this path of The Circle of Life; I’ve been making infant hats and booties thinking of life–new life which helps to give many of us hope. Hope for the future.
The hats and booties pictured are all knitted and all will be donated to Homespun Helpers for a hospitals’ NICU unit in need. Had made a 5th set, brown varigated like the the blue and white you see; but the charge nurse on my mothers floor purchased it for her soon to be born grandson. I’ll use the money she paid me towards the postage to send these other 4 sets off.
My sincere thanks for all who’ve left good wishes and said prayers for my family during this difficult time. I do hope as things calm down I’ll get to do some blog visiting.

That picture is soo cute. Very crafty. Wanna link exchange?
Those hats and bootees are beautiful! It’s wonderful that they will help keep premature babies warm. I hope that things are improving for your mom.
Five babies and their families are going to be very blessed and warmed by your handiwork. The hats and booties are adorable.
I’m so sorry to hear that your Mom is still in the hospital. Your booties and hats are beautiful. I love how you are trying to make the best of the situation and help others in need too.
What a beautiful post. And lovely knitting. May God bless you and your mother and the other families you meet on this journey.
Hey just read your article. That sounds pretty good, can’t wait to try it out. You should post it on Wacanai.com ( http://www.wacanai.com/intro ) too. I have found a ton of food and drink recipes that have come in handy at BBQs. They have a ton of articles on how to make everything. Plus you can put a link to your page and they have graphs to track how many hits you get on your articles. Thanks so much for posting your article.

I have one posted on it and it is awesome because they give you some graphs to put on your page to track how many people read your article and it tells you how useful they thought it was. I think a lot of people could use to read your stuff and I think this will help get your articles out there more!
Sorry to hear you Mom is still in hospital. Hope she is improving and that you have a special time with her this Mother’s Day.
The sets are lovely and I am sure they will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for being the type of person to think of others during this difficult time.
My first child was a NICU baby born 10 weeks early, I still have the hat she came home with. There is nothing more comforting than to have something soft and homemade on your baby made with love from a generous heart.
Hope all is well with you.
