Life and Yarn
Life and yarn seem so much alike to me. Life is built by seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, and years of trial and error. Yarn used to knit or crochet to make an item is built by singles stitches leading to rows, then rows are pieced together to make a garment or other item. Each starts small and builds into something wonderful, something enjoyable. Yarn items like life, are often made through trial and error. I recently experienced that trail and error stage, and ultimately frogged the dreaded mittens not once, but twice! Frogging; you may wonder what that means. In the knitting and crochet world frogging means rip it, rip it, rip it. If you say it fast enough, you do sound like a frog. I wish I could say that I finally got it done, I didn’t. I started and frogged twice a knitted pattern; threw in the towel and switched to a crocheted pattern. Those mittens, I can say are done, and pictured here. Next time I want a challenge, I’ll try that dang knitted pattern again. I mean, it’s only words on paper; I shouldn’t let it get the best of me. The score right now though is not in my favor. Pattern 2, me 0

Welcome to Today.com. Great metaphor. Cute mittens.

I used to knit and quilt and sew. Now I write and write and write
Love the mittens! My 18 year old daughter picked up crocheting in a big way earlier this year, and I’ve spent a lot of time teaching her the basics of crochet and coupling yarns and patterns. My 16 and 17 year old sons became fascinated with the four-hour slippers that I taught her to crochet - and that’s what I ended up making everyone for Christmas - by request.
You’re right about the way that knitting and crocheting build a little at a time. It’s an apt metaphor for life and the world, too. Welcome to Today!
Sandy, thanks for sharing your website and insight. I see that your mind creates as brilliantly as your fingers.
